Talented & Gifted Program
The Clinton Community School District’s Talented and Gifted Program aims to provide a differentiated, enriched academic environment for all identified students. We recognize that talented and gifted students have unique needs, talents, and abilities that require an education that utilizes instructional methods and materials designed to develop critical thinking processes that enhance independent study and personal effectiveness.
Elementary K – 2
In grades K-2, students are recommended by their classroom teachers to receive enrichment. When making recommendations, teachers consider academic performance, critical thinking, creativity, and student drive. The Talented and Gifted teacher pulls small enrichment groups from the general education classroom. The enrichment groups may change throughout the year based on individual student needs.
Elementary 3 – 5
In grades 3-5, the Talented and Gifted teacher provides direct pullout instruction to identified students. TAG teachers provide students opportunities to develop logic, reasoning, and problem-solving skills while using higher-level thinking and building self-confidence. Students are provided opportunities to participate in problem-based, real-world, multidisciplinary projects while using creative, analytical, and methodical thinking.
Middle School
The Talented and Gifted program teachers provide direct pullout instruction to identified students in STEAM and computer science for grades six through eight. Instruction is based on student interest, student-centered design, and conceptual-based programs. Recently added to our focus are the Portrait of a Graduate competencies with an emphasis on social awareness and collaboration.
High School
Gifted and Enrichment options for high school students include access to an accelerated curriculum, honor-level courses, Advanced Placement courses, and post-secondary classes at the college level. Additionally, students will have regular contact with the TAG consultant for optional college and career counseling, academic support, scholarship application assistance, and test preparation.
