The sophomores finished the season with 13 wins and 7 losses. Great job ladies!

The River Queens honored their eight seniors last night as Maloree Byrns, Haylee House, A'Reyae Jetter, Neveah Joseph, Joselyn Petersen, Maddie Rowden, Kylie Schroeder, and Haley Thomas before the match last night with their parents and teachers who made an impact in their life. The varsity River Kings welcomed the North Scott Lancers to Coan Field on Friday night. North Scott used some trickery to gain a 24-0 lead going into halftime. The Kings were challenged at halftime and showed some pride in the second half but ultimately fell to the Lancers 31-0. The Kings will play their final road game of the season Friday night against Western Dubuque. Let's go Kings.

Congratulations to the Royal River King and Queen Marching Band on finishing 2nd at West Liberty and 3rd at Muscatine on Saturday! The band has continued to improve their scores throughout the season, and they were able to overtake Western Dubuque and Cedar Rapids Washington who had beat them two weeks ago. The percussion section placed 2nd at both competitions, finishing only 2 points behind Davenport Central at Muscatine. Way to go band!

On Friday night, the River Kings hosted the North Scott Lancers with the Sophomore Kings opening the action by beating North Scott 26-8!!! The Kings struck paydirt first, scoring on a 16 yard run by Yavin Bell, set up by a 57 yard pass from Liam Petersen to Kenan Bailey on the first play of the game! The next Clinton score was by Isaiah Lines on a scamper from 6 yards out. The Kings increased the first quarter score to 19-0 on a 65-yard touchdown run by Chase Collender. The Kings extended their lead in the 2nd quarter on a 14-yard TD pass from Petersen to Julian Davis making the halftime score 26-0. In the 4th quarter, with the score 26-8 and the Lancers driving deep into the Kings territory, Ian Nath gave back possession to the Kings with a timely interception with 4 minutes left, securing the 26-8 victory! The Sophomore Kings improved their record to 5-2 with the WIN over North Scott!! Next up, the Kings travel to battle Western Dubuque this Friday. Thank you to all of our supporters who came out to cheer on the KINGS!!!

The River Queen Volleyball program competed in their last regular season volleyball tournament at Center Point Urbana on Saturday. The Queens played a fantastic and consistent day of volleyball, the best as of date. In pool play the Queens played a competitive match versus (4A) #12 Western Dubuque, but dropped the match 17-21, 17-21. The next match faced another ranked opponent and host (3A) #11. The Queens played their best volleyball of the day as they toppled the Pointing Stormers in straight sets 27-25, 21-18. The last pool play match of the day, the Queens slid past a scrappy Benton team by the scores o f 15-21, 21-16, 15-10 in a 3 set thriller. Three teams in both pools finished 2-1, unfortunately the Queens lost the tiebreaker to take the #3 seed moving into the consolation bracket. The Queens played Waterloo Columbus in the first consolation match and did just enough to squeak by in 3 sets. The consolation finals hosted (2A) #8 Iowa City Regina versus Clinton. The Queens playing their 5th match of the day played very competitively, but dropped a close 2-set match 22-25, 22-25. The offense was clicking over the weekend as they attacked .141%, the highest attacking percentage to date for a weekend tournament. Joselyn Petersen led the Queens with 48 kills, which was very impressive considering she had just under 200 kills to date before the weekend. She hit an impressive .275% and recorded her 300th career kill over the weekend! Congrats! Maggie House and Maloree Byrns helped the offensive record with 26 and 20 kills, respectively. Haylee House led the offense with 60 assists and 8 aces Tenley Cewe led the defense with 27 digs and 2.07 pass rating with 40 attempts. Haley Thomas led the passer rating with 50 attempts and 2.16 passer rating. Petersen also had 4 solo blocks and 10 assist blocks as Audry Gruhn followed the defensive effort at the net with 1 solo and 5 assist blocks. Harlow Scott had 1 solo block and 7 assist blocks. Great job ladies!

The River Queens hosted MAC foe Davenport Central Tuesday in Yourd Gym. The Sophomores got off to a fast start and never looked back as they swept the Blue Devils 25-13, 25-14, 25-15. The Queens are now 11-7 overall. The JV started slow, dropping set 1, but rebounded to win sets 2 and 3. The girls played some great defense and outstanding net play as the Queens prevailed. The Varsity played a tight set 1 with Central, ultimately taking the first set 26-24. The Queens never looked back as they cruised in sets 2 and 3, sweeping the Blue Devils 25-13 and 25-9. The Queens were led offensively by Maloree Byrns who had a match high 8 kills on 16 attempts, with 0 attacking errors to hit a boisterous .500. Haylee House led the Queens with 13 assists, followed by Alaina Carpenter's 10 assists and 6 aces from the service line. The Queens ended with 17 total aces and took the Blue Devils out of the system the entire match. The back row defense was led by Tenley Cewe, who dug up 7 attacks. Kylie Schroeder had 4 assist blocks to lead the Queens. Haley Thomas passed an impressive 2.66 (out of 3.0) in serve receive, and Maddie Rowden passed a 2.0, respectively. The Queens return to action at the Center Point Urbana tournament on Saturday, where they will face two state ranked opponents in pool play. First serve is slated for 9:30am! The Queens return home for their last match in Yourd Gym this season, as they take on Muscatine next Tuesday as we honor our 8 seniors, for Senior Night and Dig Pink!

The River Kings ended their season by competing in a two-person best shot against Davenport West again this year. The Kings helped keep the traveling trophy in Clinton (after the girls had won it back last Spring) by beating the Falcons 5-1. The coaches were ready to battle it out in the tie-breaker but it didn’t come to that! Great weather and a great way to end our successful season and have an extra chance to say “Thanks” to our seniors Scott Pasakarnis, Cohen Thorpe, Ray Brown, Dante Kelly, and Levi Fransen! Go Kings!

Special thanks to seniors Scott Pasakarnis, Ray Brown, Cohen Thorpe, Dante Kelly and Levi Fransen for their roles this year in being great examples of putting in the work and showing what it means to be a River King. This year's team was a lot of fun to coach with the huge commitment that everyone put in. They were great at communication and high in energy.
