DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thursday Sept 5, 2024

I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one Nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

  • Josten's presentation has been moved to Tuesday, September 10th. We will be doing sophomores at the end of 2nd hour (9:50ish) and the seniors will be at the start of 3rd period.  This will push back them taking orders on September 17th.

  • Yearbooks (23/24) are available for pick-up from Mrs. Lemon-Levy in Room 115 of the old building. Head toward the old main office and look for the 'iJAG" sign.

  • Friday is our first home football game. If you want to cheer on our Kings, you need to purchase your wristband at lunch on Friday for $5. Students must have under 10 tardies to be eligible for a wristband. Ask an administrator if you have any questions.

  • Juniors and Seniors: Do you have an interest in becoming a Power Lineman?  If so, please stop by room A227 to learn about an upcoming college visit that has been scheduled to Marshalltown Community College for Tuesday September 10th.  Students will have an opportunity to tour the facility and visit with current students of the Powerline Technician Program.  You may also email CCTC Marla Schultz for more information

  • After-School Tutoring is being offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45 - 4:45 in the New Library!  There is no cost.  We have staff in most of the core classes available! Please ask a CHS teacher or administrator if you would like to attend!

  • Your school counseling office will be offering the PSAT on October 9th at the start of day location to be announced. It costs $18.  If that is a hardship please let your counselor know. If you are interested in taking the PSAT please stop by the counseling office, bring $18 and sign up with Mrs. Klinkhammer. Our new office is on the 2nd floor collab space outside the library. Sign up ends September 6th. The PSAT is a great tool to practice for future college entrance exams, and you might qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

  • Hey!  Are you an athlete?  Are you interested in being a positive leader on your athletic team? Fellowship of Christian Athletes or FCA will be meeting on Friday at 7:45am for their first meeting of the school year! Meeting will be in Mr. McEwen's room on the 3rd Floor Room 309.  Come and check it out!

  • The Homecoming Dance is on Oct. 5th.  Please make sure you are showing up for classes and keeping up on all your work so you can go.  Sign-up will start after school on Sept 13th. The form will be sent to your school email.

  • The math guys have a limited time offer for you: $10 off + free shipping for one of those sweet white NumWorks calculators, now through Sept 6.  Check out the QR code on the TVs, or see one of the math teachers for the discount code.

  • Picture day will be held this Friday, Sept 6th.  Please don’t wear green or you will fade into the background.

  • River King Varsity Boys competed in the Assumption Invitational Wednesday at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport.  The Kings faltered a little scoring higher than their average this season so far and ended up in 11th place out of 12.  Team medalist was Connor Busse shooting an 87.  Other players scoring for the Kings were Brycen Lawrence, Scott Pasakarnis, and Hunter Frahm.  Also competing were Ray Brown and Cohen Thorpe.  The Kings hope to turn the tide next week at their home invite on Thursday.

  • The JV Boys competed yesterday at Red Hawk against Davenport West and were victorious 183-196. Carter Thorpe continued his strong freshmen start and was meet and team medalist shooting a 44 winning in a tiebreaker with senior Nathan Frye.  Also scoring for the Kings were freshmen Griffen Keefer and Maverick Hensel.  Levi Fransen and Reagan Steenhard also played for the JV Kings.

  • Your River Queen Swim Team fell to the  Lady Bulldogs Last Tuesday night 129-30. The Queens were led by some nice swims from Srp, Brisch, Schroeder and Cagle. All of the Queens competed well. The Queens have their next home meet next Tuesday against Muscatine and their home Invitational Saturday the 14th. Come support your QUEENS!
