  • Interested in participating in individual speech? Attend an individual speech information session this Tuesday from 6 - 6:30 p.m. OR Wednesday from 7:30 - 8 a.m. in Mrs. Lemon-Levy's room. Please enter through the academic wing doors. Mrs. Lemon-Levy and Miss Struble will provide an overview on individual events; discuss what will happen at “auditions” later this week; and share their expectations for the individual speech season. Questions? Ask Mrs. Lemon-Levy during the school day.


  • Girls Soccer -- open gym this week-- Tuesday Jan. 14th at 6pm in the Wellness gym; Wednesday Jan. 15th at 6pm in Yourd gym.


  • Pride Club is planning to attend the Student Day at the Capitol with Iowa Safe Schools! They will be travelling to Des Moines and meeting lots of politicians and lawmakers. They'll advocate for themselves and try to make Iowa a better place for everybody! The event takes place on February 25th. If you are interested, please notify Rin Ciner as soon as possible. The deadline is Friday, January 17th. We hope to see you there! jan17


  • Seniors graduating at the semester:  Don’t forget to return your computer, charger, & case to the library when you are done with them.  The computer needs to be charged enough to start up and have any stickers or writing removed from them.  Also please turn in any books or headphones you may still have out.  If you are interested in going to Prom in May the library would also like an email address that you check regularly to send the sign-up form to. Your school email will remain active till June and the sign-up form will be sent there also. 


  • Calling all current juniors and seniors in an AP course right now. The traditional AP poster photo opp will be THIS Wednesday, January 15th at 1:40 immediately after school. The theme for the picture will be "The Power of Knowledge." If you are currently taking an AP class and have also taken at least one AP test or signed up to take one this year, please plan on being here for the picture. Have questions about this? Please ask an AP teacher for more information.


  • Sweater Weather is here and your teachers have designed sweaters for you!  Find all 28 choices outside of the library.  Choose your favorite design and vote for it in the library.  The teacher who's design gets the most votes will win a prize.  There are some AMAZING ones to look at! Show your teachers some appreciation of their "sweater weather" designs!  Voting is open until January 17th.  The winner will be announced on 1/21.


  • Join us in the library for “Read a Latte” Today, Jan. 13th after school until 4:15 pm and/or Tues, Jan 14th at 7:40 am till homeroom.


  • Pride Club will be meeting in Mrs. Ciner's room (A107) after school Tuesday, January 14th! All are welcome! 


  • The Kings took their Varsity and JV wrestlers to the Northeast Invitational on Saturday. The young Kings continue to show grit and overall improvement every time they step on the mat! They are making the River King nation proud! The Kings ended up winning the invite with 394.5 points.  Nolan Eggers and Brody Harrington won their first Varsity tournament championships of their careers.   • Saturday the CHS Bowling Teams held the Clinton Invitational at Plaza Bowl.  There were nine teams at the invitational and both the boys and girls varsity got 1st place.  The varsity boys pulled out a close one with a 3082 just ahead of the 2nd place team Durant with a 3078.  The varsity girls got 1st place with a commanding score of 2756 ahead of the 2nd place team Muscatine with a 2531  The JV boys ended up 5th out of 7 teams with a 2168 and the JV girls were 2nd out of 3 teams with a 1909.   Top scorers for Boys Varsity were: Charlie Pelham:  2 game series of 452, Brycen Lawrence:  2 game series of 491.  Top scorers for Girls Varsity were: Grace Hake: 2 game series of 397, Tucker Sechrest: 2 game series of 409.  Top scorers for boys JV were: Chayse Meurs:  2 game series of 307, Cutter Overton:  2 game series of 337.  Top scorers for girls JV were: Keira Palmer:  2 game series of 263, Laynie Steines:  2 game series of 366.


  • On Friday night, the River Kings traveled to Muscatine to take on the Muskies in a MAC Conference boys basketball tilt. The Freshmen were in a close game early, down only three points at halftime. Muscatine pulled away in the second half and won by a score of 67--30. The Sophomore Kings fought hard but could not overcome the Muskies and lost by a score of 66--29. The Varsity Kings gave a tremendous effort but also fell to the top team in the conference, 71--39. Thank you to all of the supporters who made their way to Muscatine! The Kings are back in action Tuesday night with road games at Davenport Assumption. GO KINGS!!


  • The River Queen basketball team had a solid weekend of games going 2-2 as a program coming close to winning all four! For the JV Queens, Friday night found themselves down 1 headed into the 4th with Muscatine but eventually losing 53-44.  Leading the way were Lilly Hankins with 10, Anijah Williams with 8 and  and Shayna Nettles and Arra Greene with 6 each. On Saturday, the JV Queens played a Geneseo team and handled them with intense pressure and fast paced offense.  JV Queens are now 5-5. The varsity Queens found themselves with a lead late in the game on Friday night but were unable to hold off the Muskies late and fell 51-44.  Leading the Queens were Carryn Sattler with 15 points, Nettles with 9, and Hankins with 8.  Aubrey Fergurson had 16 boards and Alli Haskell led with 4 assists. Saturday the Queens got back in the win column with a sound defeat of Geneseo 53-42 in the Iowa Illinois Shootout. Carryn Sattler again led the Queens with 18 points and 7 boards and Aubrey Fergurson had 16 boards again helping them share the "Player of the Game" award.  Also filling the stat column were Haskell with 10 points, and Madi McAvoy with 7. Haskell had 4 assists and 5 steals as well.  The Varsity Queens are now 4-6.
