Attention Boys Soccer Players, there is Open Gym every Wed 5:30-7:00. No cleats, indoor shoes. Also, with the season fast approaching, you need to have a CURRENT white card and you should start your conditioning now. See Coach Bradway (311) with any questions.
We will be doing Edmentum testing January 27-31 so make sure that your computers are charged the night before, you bring your chargers to school, and be ready to go for testing.
Dear sophomores and juniors. Do you ever feel like you need help coping with life's many challenges? Maybe you zone out when things get tough or get angry. The counseling office is going to run a small group during the second semester. We will meet weekly during the school day to help teach students coping strategies. If this is something you are interested in please see or email your school counselor.
The River King wrestlers battled in the CR Jefferson J-Hawk invitational Saturday placing 10th in the 18-team tournament. The Kings are showing huge improvements and competed with some of the best wrestlers in the state. Brady Jennings got his 100th career victory and finished 2nd on the day! Danny Peters placed 4th, Ty Sander-Welzien and Brody Harrington finished 6th and Jakob Litherland and Hayden Chandler finished 8th.
On Friday January 17th, the CHS Bowling Teams had a conference meet against Central DeWitt. All teams won their meets except for the Junior Varsity Boys. The varsity boys won 3083 to 2790. The varsity girls won 2605 to 1714. The JV boys lost 1807 to 2142. The JV girls won with a score of 1587. Top scorers for Boys Varsity were: Blake Shepherd: 2 game series of 477, Charlie Pelham: 2 game series of 479. Top scorers for Girls Varsity were: Madison Hartman: 2 game series of 378, Laynie Steines: 2 game series of 381. Top scorers for boys JV were: Brennon Langfitt: 2 game series of 258, Cutter Overton: 2 game series of 297. Top scorers for girls JV were: Sara Otegui: 2 game series of 223, Keira Palmer: 2 game series of 251.
On Saturday January 18th the Varsity girls attended a 20 team Prairie Baker Tournament at Cedar Creek Lanes in Cedar Rapids and came home with a third place trophy and medals. They bowled 14 Baker format games and were seeded 1st in brackets with a score of 2798 and averaging 199.8. The girls faced Cedar Rapids Washington in the first round and won 2 out of 3 matches with scores of 172, 168, and 188 to their 180, 165, and 141. In the second round they faced Vinton-Shellsburg and lost a hard fought match with scores of 199, 169, and 170 to their 153, 201, and 179. This put the girls into the consolation bracket where they faced Davenport North and finished in 3rd Place with scores of 171 and 208 to their 136 and 153. It was a great afternoon for the Ladies.
The JV Kings wrestled Monday at Solon. Second place finishes for the kings were: Jack George, David Peralta-Flores, Nate Lundin, Chase Collender, and Carlos Cuatlacuatl. Third place: Scott Pasakarnis, Riley Kupfer, Zane Weaver, Eric Harris, Wyatt Graham, Cooper Cooley, and Hilario Cuatlacuatl. Fourth place: Alijah Russell, Anthony Sayson, Griffen Keefer, Joaquin Donaire, Hunter Ball, Liam Petersen, Ryley Engelkins, Zeke Zuidema, Landon Clark, Cormac Nichols, and Jadis Franklin. The young men continue to show growth. Great job guys and keep up the hard work!
The River Queen Basketball program had four games over the long weekend. Both JV and varsity teams lost to Davenport North on Friday but the varsity bounced back for a close game on Saturday in the Manny's Shootout at West Carroll against a solid River Ridge team narrowly losing 36-34 on what would have been a game winning 3 that just missed. The Varsity Queens played again last night against Davenport Central picking up a big win 55-20. Scoring for the Queens were Sattler with 18, Haskell with 15, and Fergurson with 8. Sattler and Fergurson both added 8 boards while Haskell added 6 assists and Hankins added 4 steals. The Queens move to 5-9 on the season and play Bettendorf this Friday.
Last night the River Kings traveled to Davenport for A MAC Conference boys basketball game against the Central Blue Devils. The Freshmen Kings ran into a solid squad and were defeated by a score of 32-66. The Sophomore squad were in the game early but could not quite close the gap, and lost their game 47-61. The Varsity Kings played their best game of the year against one of the top teams in the conference. The Kings led by two points at halftime. They were down by 4 points with the ball and about 20 seconds to go, but could not quite get the game winners to drop in, and finally lost 61-65. The Kings were led by Jordan Coleman with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Marshall Johnson with 19 points and 8 boards, and Mharlo Guy tossing in 12 points. Everyone on the team contributed to a great performance! The KIngs are back in action tomorrow night--Thursday the 23rd--as the Bettendorf Bulldogs visit Yourd Gym. The Freshmen tip off the evening games starting at 4:30pm. Come out and support the Kings! GO KINGS!!
