Lincoln Hinrichs was also critical in the game, earning Man of the Match with his role in the attack at the right back position. He consistently won possession, played the ball off, and continued forward to add to the attacking threat.  The second game was highlighted by a goal from Javion Dearing, assisted by Baltazar Cedillo. BJ Cooley added 10 saves to keep the kings in it. Man of the Match was Baltazar Cedillo, for the assist, as well as his work rate to quickly win the ball back.  The kings are back in action on Monday, hosting Davenport central.

  • The River Queen Varsity Team came to play in adverse conditions of 40-degree weather with wind gusts of 15 to 20 mph and cloud cover in Waterloo, Iowa, Saturday at the Chuck Schupach Memorial Girls Tennis Tournament. The Queens placed first as a team! Sessie Haan, state qualifier from 2024, defeated Kate Holland 10-3 in match play. Kate is the 1A state runner up from 2024. Sescie then teamed with Maddie Rowden, also a double gold medalist today like Sescie, to clinch the #1 varsity doubles, with teammates Lou Gonzalez and Josie Srp bringing in the gold at number three doubles. Teammates Katie Atkinson and Elizabeth Grinnall placed 2nd in #2 doubles. Grinnall lost a tight one 6-7 to Decorah for a silver in #3 singles, Gonzalez placed 2nd also at #4. Josie Srp took a silver in another 6-7 match at #5. Finally, Katie Atkinson at #6 brought in a gold! It's always a great competition every year. It helps the queens, who have the entire team back from 2024, who finished in the final 8 at state last year to get ready for Mac Conference and State this year. The Queens are working hard to be at the top in team state in 2025. I'm a very blessed coach to have such wonderful athletes that understand the meaning of being a team, great assistant coaches, and wonderful supportive parents. As they say...It's always a great day to be a River Queen!
