David Rosales, CCSD Orchestra Director:
"On Saturday, October 21st the CHS music department participated in auditions for the 77th annual Iowa All-State Band, Choir, and Orchestra. In contrast to State Large Group at the end of the school year, where students are awarded as an ensemble, students at All-State are selected based on their individual performance in an audition. These rigorous auditions last all day and require months of preparation.
This year, after a 15 hour day, two members of the CHS music department were selected to be a part of the Iowa All-State music ensembles. Junior Elena Brisch was selected to join the Iowa All-State band. She was one of 135 percussion students auditioning for just 14 spots. Senior Brad Shumake was selected to join the Iowa All-State Orchestra. Brad was one of 50 bass players competing for 20 spots.
There was also a victory in the CHS choir department. Freshman Jade Stuart was selected as a recall for auditions. While Jade did not advance past the recall stage, it is a huge achievement to make it to the recall round in All-State Choir."
Congratulations, Elena and Brad!
