Professional Career Accomplishments

Brian Guy (Clinton High School Class of 1978) has been chosen to be inducted into the Clinton High School Hall of Honor. He was chosen for the field of Professional Career Accomplishments. Guy was the youngest officer in Clinton Police history. He was recruited right after he graduated from Clinton High School. He was in the force for 36 years, and spent approximately 15 years as Police Chief. Guy is the longest serving Police Chief in the history of the Clinton Police Department.
Guy has many accomplishments that have impacted not only local police forces, but forces all over the Midwest. He played a fundamental role in creating the Clinton Citizen’s Police Academy, which has been active for over 20 years. Guy also played a big role in creating a “Standardized Field Training” program for the Clinton Police Department, which is recognized and adopted throughout the Midwest. He served on the Iowa Enforcement Academy Council, the Clinton County Communications Commission, He was also on the Board for the Mobile Team Training Unit, which is a multi-agency and multi-state law enforcement training organization.
Guy speaks fondly of his memories from the Clinton Community School District and about his career. Some of his favorite recollections from CCSD were the lifelong friendships that he made at Clinton High. Guy stated that he did not originally plan on becoming the Clinton Police Chief. He states, “It happened organically.” He did say that he had a lifelong dream of becoming a police officer and that is what drove him to be better. He said that his advice for graduating leaders from Clinton High School is “Be the point where the bucks stops.” Quoting Harriet Tubman, instead of looking to put the blame on other people, be the person to step up and take responsibility. He also stated that one of his teachers at Washington Middle School had a rule in his classroom that stuck with him throughout his life, “Never say, 'I can't' and always said to do the best that you can possibly do and to give everything your all.
The Clinton High School Hall of Honor is a mission to recognize those who attended Clinton High School and have distinguished themselves in their careers, communities and personal lives. These individuals are relatable examples of excellence to Clinton High School students because they walked the same halls and went onto achieve greatness in their respectable fields. It’s inspiring to students to know so many Clinton High alumni have accomplished such accolades. That commonality between the Hall of Honor Honorees and current students is motivational and inspiring.
Brian Guy’s service to our community is unmeasurable and lasting beyond his years of service. Guy will be honored and recognized among the other esteemed inductees on April 26th. The Clinton Community School District is proud to induct Brian Guy into the Hall of Honor at Clinton High School.
