Construction activities are underway on the Royal Solar Field, a 1.25-megawatt solar project partnership between Alliant Energy and the Clinton Community School District.
“The Clinton Community School District is excited to partner with Alliant Energy in establishing the Royal Solar Field,” said Wes Golden, Superintendent of Clinton Community School District. “Alliant Energy's commitment to renewable energy in partnership with education is amazing and provides wonderful opportunities for our learners.”
The school intends to use the approximately 2,300 solar-panel array as an educational opportunity for students as part of its science curriculum.
In addition to generating reliable, renewable energy, the Royal Solar Field will help Alliant Energy understand the impact of placing projects on the local energy grid. Through local energy sources, increased efforts to move electric lines underground and other initiatives, Alliant Energy works to increase reliability in the community.
“This is an exciting opportunity for both Clinton Community School District and Alliant Energy as we both learn about distributed energy generation and the benefits of local, reliable energy,” said Paula Steward, senior key account manager for Alliant Energy. “The success of projects like this brings more low-cost clean energy to our communities.”
The project is located at the River King & Queen Athletic Complex. Alliant Energy expects it will be operational mid-2025 and will provide the district with lease payments for the project's life – approximately 30 years.
The Royal Solar Field falls under the Alliant Energy® Customer-Hosted Renewables program, an important part of the company’s Clean Energy Blueprint – a roadmap to diversify its energy mix and accelerate its transition to renewable energy.
